Shockingly Bad

I bought this book, because I recognized the author's name and the premise sounded great. Well, the story had little to nothing to do with Hanover House, and overall it was just bad, bad, bad. I don't know what to make of an established author writing this way.
The character interactions were laughable. The heroine meets the hero who she hardly knows and feels the need to tell him that because of her horrific past she can't dance or make out with people. Seriously? Did I just read that?
The dialogue and exchanges continue to be that ridiculous, and whenever things get really tedious...just throw in an exclamation point! A lot of them! Even when they are totally unnecessary! More exclamation points!
This is exactly how it felt to be reading this non-story. Even the mother's fear for her daughter's career choice comes through with, "But you're just so beautiful!
Gag. I am stunned this was ever published.

I can't wait till the next book In this set! I raced through HANOVER HOUSE non-stop. Many readers will enjoy the budding romance, on-again off-again (and not for the usual reasons) between protagonist Dr. Evelyn Talbot and the Alaskan State Police officer who patrols the tiny village of Hilltop, Alaska, where the brand-new first-of-its-kind maximum security institution for the incarceration and study of psychopaths is under construction. I was engrossed by the theme, and by Evelyn' s strengths, and by her bete noir' s implacability. Yet Evelyn perseveres, still alive, and far beyond mere survival.

This a prequel to her book Whiteout. It gives you a look at the characters before Hanover House opens. Dr. Evelyn Talbott is the one behind HH. She was held hostage at sixteen, by her boyfriend Jasper, for three days. He'd killed her three best friends and slit her throat and left her for dead. He was never caught. Now she studies psychopaths and that is what HH is. When she is kidnapped by him again but is able to get away. But Jasper is still out there. She has a hot state trooper that what's to help her with her intimacy issues.
I cannot wait for WHITEOUT!!! This short story will have you looking around corners and jumping at little noises.
