The Best SharePoint User Guide on the Market

I know this book was a bit late to get on the scene, June 5th. Let me tell you, this book was well worth the wait! I've had the chance to read other beginning SharePoint books and user guides, specifically SharePoint 2007 User's Guide: Learning Microsoft's Collaboration and Productivity Platform and Microsoft SharePoint 2007 For Dummies, and none of them lay it out for the end users as well as this book does.

The book is filled with easy to follow examples with step-by-step instructions that make it easy to implement your own team solutions.

My favorite chapters are 6, 10, 11, and 12; Content Types, Forms Services, Excel Services, and the BDC, respectively. None of these chapters are longer than 50 pages, but they are filled to the brim with so much useful information that you will read them from beginning to end.

This book is the definitive SharePoint user's guide.

Must Have for SharePoint Designers

This is the best book on the market for learning how the newest versions of SharePoint can help company's improve business processes and information management.

From getting a solid understanding of content types and site columns (new features within SharePoint) to making use of Forms Services, the reader gains knowledge of how to use these important concepts to create business solutions that are easy to maintain and extend.

I've read a lot of books about Sharepoint and MOSS and actually I can say that this is my personal "top of the list" for ayone who wants to be introduced into the Sharepoint and MOSS world.
The book is simple to read and rich of guided samples, it covers all the aspects you need in order to start working with Sharepoint and MOSS.
If you're a developer that wants to customize the engine, this is not the right book for you... but if you've the needs to learn Sharepoint and to work immediately with it, this is extremely recommended.

This book will get you there

I like most things about this book; the physics and physiological part connected to Wing Chun and the use of the wooden dummy, the construction guide, the pictures and the describing text, the parallel applied use (with a human opponent) descriptions of all techniques. It is definitely good enough for you to learn using the wooden dummy from scratch, or to improve your present skills if already accustomed to it.
There are two things though I would like to see improved in this book:
1. The same standardized order of the pictures. In the formal wooden dummy sequences the order is of one kind, and in the applied sequences it's often another kind. This is unnecessarily confusing (even if the odd order is noted), although a minor problem after a couple of hours reading.
2. There should be pictures from above the dummy, so that certain details would be revealed that are impossible to note with help of the one angle used. This is especially important for beginners who might not be aware of certain grips, forearm turns, hand positioning and other details that are hidden by body parts of either the instructor or the dummy. In such cases supplement pictures would clarify things.

Still, even considering these two issues, this book is a really good help in learning how to use the wooden dummy in your training to improve your Wing Chun skills.

Excellent guide to the wooden dummy form

Sifu Rawcliffe's book is an excellent study guide and reference for students of Wing Chun who are learning the wooden dummy form. The instructions and photos are very clear and Sifu Rawcliffe provides examples of self defense applications of all the techniques in the form. My only complaint is sometimes the photos for the movement being discussed are not on the same page as the text and I found myself constantly flipping back and forth between the page I was reading and the page with the appropriate photo. Otherwise, it is one of the best of the many books I have read on Wing Chun and I highly recommend it.

A must read for everyone

As acclaimed by the late distinguished historian Howard Zinn, Derber is among the most astute social critics of our times. The essays in this book live up to Zinn's expectations. Here, Derber is reviving the critical sociological imagination, once embodied in the work of C. Wright Mills, of whom Derber is an heir. Derber's writings warn that an empire grounded in unrestrained competition, militarism, greed and consumption for consumption sake, with little concern for preservation of the commons, may be doomed. He observes a society where 1% of the population absorb about 50% of the wealth, whose governments masks itself as a democracy, while being closely allied with the 1% at the expense of 99%, perhaps 99.99....%, if you think globally. It is a government whose imperial militaristic ambitions coincide with the quest for worldwide economic domination among the corporate elite. Derber sees the planet and 99+% sacrificed, in a path that leads to immiseration, meaninglessness and alienation for the vast majority and risks destroying the entire biosphere. Yet Derber does not throw his arms in hopeless angst. Instead, he offers a vision of a far more fulfilling world and offers potential strategies through which it can be achieved. I urge EVERYONE (no exception) to carefully read this book.

New light on what is going on in the society we live in. A real eye opener. I had read something similar in an article on the internet, but I did not know that this book was out there. When I found it, I was elated. I would call this recommended reading.

This book is still available. You can either contact the publisher (A & C Black, London), or go to Amazon-UK. This book is for serious International Standard dancers (American style is not covered). Six to eight basic figures are addressed for each of the four International Standard dances: fox trot, quick step, tango, and waltz. Each figure is minutely broken down into footwork, contra body movement, body sway, and amount of turn. My partner and I found Alex Moore's Ballroom Dancing to be an indispensable part of our practice routine. Please note, this is not a 'do it yourself' book. It will be most effective if used as part of a curriculum with an experienced teacher.

This book presents maneuvers that are very leadable. The lady
can follow the man without knowing in advance what he will do.
The very detailed technique is based on the bio-mechanical
necessities of good dancing. It has been the most respected
book on ballroom dancing worldwide for decades. It is useful
for teaching yourself without a teacher, if you are a serious
student. It covers international style, which has some figures
in common with American style. Where they diverge international
sticks to leadable figures, American to showy figures.
