Organizations should buy this in bulk and hand them out en mass

This spiral bound handbook is small enough and inexpensive enough to really warrant wide distribution within a company. The sections are concisely written and provide good, step-by-step instructions for using the tools it contains. This is exactly the type of information that should be widely available to staff members because who knows better than the people doing the work what could be improved. Knowing what could be improved is only half the battle though, a plan of action that is feasible is required to transform idle talk into cost-savings and improved quality.

This book provides those plans of action. It can help anyone who can take the time to read 3 or 4 pages to figure out a method to actually accomplish improvements rather than just talk about it over lunch with co-workers. I found this little guide takes much of the resistance out of change because everyone can see in a few pages how and why things are going to be done rather than just having management dictate changes to be made. Of course the people in charge of overseeing the process of value added changes should read further on the subjects contained inside this guide. For everyone else though this is a handy cheat-sheet that can be used to help explain different aspects of lean in a down to earth manner. Lean is something that is best tackled in small bites, eliminating waste here and streamlining process there on a daily basis and that sort of commitment requires a handy reference tool that doesn't require week long classes or chapters of reading to accomplish something. This guide gives you tools that can get results.

Great for training, reference

This is such a great book for a team who is starting (or continuing) a lean journey, as a training and reference tool. I still use it as a reference in my job, though I am the "lean expert" in my group. Very simple and easy to read, while still giving a good overview of all the most common lean tools.

method of fortune-telling. Now, the opinions of some, even in
the literary reviews, are of no importance unless they happen to
agree with our own, but in order to sanctify this doctrine we
must take care that our opinions, and the subjects out of which
they arise, are concerned only with the highest. Yet it is just
this which may seem doubtful, in the present instance, not only
to those, whom I respect within the proper measures of detach-
ment, but to some of more real consequence, seeing that their
dedications are mine. To these and to any I would say that
after the most illuminated Frater Christian Rosy Cross had
beheld the Chemical Marriage in the Secret Palace of Transmu-
tation, his story breaks off abruptly, with an intimation that he
expected next morning to be door-keeper, i^fter the same man-
ner, it happens more often than might seem likely that those who
have seen the Occult Pozuers of Nature through the most clearest
veils of the sacraments are those who assume thereafter the hum-
blest offices of all about the House of Wisdom. By such simple
devices also are the Adepts and Great Masters in the secret orders
distinguished from the cohort of Neophytes as servi servorum
mysterii. So also, or in a way which is not entirely unlike, vi�
meet with the Tarot cards at the outermost gates — amidst the
fritterings and debris of the so-called occult arts, about which no
one in their senses has suffered the smallest deception; and yet
these cards belong in themselves to another region, for they con-
tain a very high symbolism, which is interpreted according to the
Laws of Grace rather than by the pretexts and intuitions of that
which passes for divination. The fact that the wisdom of God
(Nature) is foolishness with men does not create a presumption
that the foolishness of this world makes In any sense for Divine

About the Author
Chris Garver is a professional tattoo artist at the world-renowned Invisible NYC tattoo shop on New York City’s Lower East Side. He is also a former star of TLC’s popular reality show Miami Ink. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Chris began experimenting with tattooing at the age of 17 before attending Manhattan’s School of Visual Arts. He has been a full-time professional tattoo artist since moving to New York in his early 20s. He lives in Brooklyn.

Beautiful and Varied Designs by renowned Tattoo artist Chris Garver – printed on both sides of non-perforated paper

[[VIDEOID:aecc517135ce0c46a08e9c8b653b27d9]]The designs in this coloring book are beautiful and graceful. There is an emphasis on flowers and on creatures of the sea. The bird in the cover art is included in the coloring book but the full design is not. Too bad as I would have loved to have colored it specifically. I didn't know Chris Garver's work as a tattoo artist so I wasn't sure quite what to expect in this book. I was somewhat surprised at the delicacy of the drawings but that certainly has more to do with my perceptions of what to expect than anything to do with Mr. Garver's beautiful artwork. Some of the designs have intricate and small details (such as the petal flower shaped mandala towards the back of the book); however, most of the designs are open in nature and will not require special pens with small nibs or sharp pointed pencils.

The coloring book is well made with nice, thick paper. The cover is beautifully illustrated with touches of copper foil. The designs are printed on both sides of the white heavyweight non-perforated pages. The binding is sewn rather than glued, so you can remove a few pages at a time with a few snips of thread. Many of the designs merge into the bind or spread across two pages. Fifteen of the seventy five designs in this book spread across two pages. A few of the two page spreads did not line up especially well in my copy of the book, most notably the snake where the fangs were disconnected from one page to the other. Otherwise, most of the pages lined up well and a few of them were one a single folded sheet of paper at the center of the pages that were sewn together. That makes for a great and large designs (albeit with some thread holes in the middle.) I was able to get the book to lay fairly flat by breaking the spine.

Only my alcohol-based markers bled through this paper. That was for all brands and tip types. My water-based markers and India ink artist pens did not bleed through nor did they leave any form of shadow on the back of the page. My gel pens did not leave a shadow but required a tiny bit more drying time than normal. All of my coloring pencils did very well with this paper. I was able to blend not only my soft lead pencils but also my Prismacolor Verithins which are very hard lead. The hard lead pencils did not leave an indent at the back of the page. All pencils went on thick and creamy with very little effort.

These are the coloring medium that I use for testing. If there is something else you feel I should be testing, please let me know and I will see if I can add it to my growing pile:

Markers: 1) alcohol-based – Copic Sketch, Prismacolor double ended markers (brush and fine point), Sharpies (fine and ultra-fine) Bic Mark-its (fine and ultra-fine) and 2) water-based – Tombows dual end markers (brush and fine point), Stabilo 88, Staedler triplus fineliners, and Pentel markers

India Ink: Faber-Castell PITT artist pens (brush tip)

Gel Pens: Sakura, Fiskars, Uni-ball Signo in the following sizes - 0.28/0.38/0.5/1.0 and Tekwriter

Coloring Pencils: Prismacolor Premier Soft Core, Derwent Colorsoft, Prismacolor Verithins, and Faber-Castell Polychromos

The artwork in this is fantastic. AMAZING. IMAGINATIVE! The paper it is printed on is exceptional as well.

The main problem I have with this is that the book is printed double sided! I can't color one and not worry about the color bleeding through to the other side.

Something for Everyone

I'm a Japanese tattoo collector and enthusiast. I have large-scale work from guys like Brian Bruno, Dana Helmuth, and Chad Koeplinger. I also study the masters of the style -- guys like Shige, Jeff Gogue, Jess Yen, Mike Rubendall, and Chris Garver.

While not strictly limited to Japanese tradition, Chris Garver's adult coloring book gives me a deeper appreciation for the style through allowing me to be an active participant in the creative process. His drawings in this book are beautiful, flowing, and evoke the feel, vibe, and emotion that only masters can portray.

I have shared my find with other friends and compared it with the Posh coloring book on Japanese designs and much prefer the energy of Chris' designs. The line weight and technical accuracy of the drawings is also much more consistent, intentional, and purposeful throughout the book.

Excellent architecture refresher for Comp Sci

My background: I have degrees in Computer Science and Physics. My last architecture class was in 1994, however. This book was precisely at my level -- someone who is relatively familiar with hardware but not overly so.

I believe that this book presents itself as too limited a scope -- it is an excellent review for anyone looking to understand more about many aspects of computer technology from memory to buses to communication. It is a book that easily removes any mystery behind the actual workings of signals and communication protocols.

Furthermore, it is a very easy book to read -- it doesn't get lost in math, but it does dive in to multiple types of current chips to use for project development. If you are looking to get into embedded systems for project development (say, with an Aduino), this is a perfect book for that.

The important thing about this book is to remember the level and audience -- if you are an expert in Electrical Engineering, you will not appreciate this book. If you have never heard of any technologies involved, it may be a little difficult to read through it as well. If, however, you have heard of DDR2 but don't know exactly how you'd use that component in a circuit or code a low-level driver to communicate to it, or if you have heard of RS232 but don't know how you'd make a system to speak it, this is the book for you.

Covers Far More Architecture than Embedded Alone

Scholarly articles are atwitter with the fact that embedded systems are growing at an unprecedented, exponential rate, with patents far outstripping enhancements to general processing. If you're an old pro, take note, if you're in school, consider this for career planning. But wait... embedded systems are now being defined by what they are NOT-- the exception that defines the rule-- meaning your general purpose PC. Almost everything else out there with ANY specialized "action" now fits the embedded model!

This is absolutely the BEST book for beginning and intermediate readers on hardware design, not just for embedded because of the above, but for ANY modern microprocessor design. Lipiansky writes with gentle kindness but doesn't talk down-- it is a real pleasure to explore even the tougher sections. As an example, you'll learn a LOT about digital signal processing, but not get into the required Fourier math for detail. You'll also understand characteristic impedance without having to solve PDE's. In short, Ed is a low-ego teacher and doesn't waste time showing off what he knows-- a true teacher.

Because it is so up to date, you'll cover all the "old" acronyms like RS232C and PLA, but also learn about today's hottest systems such as USB and CPLD. Before your eyes glaze over with acronyms, Ed wakes us up frequently with numerous real world applications from auto sensors to cell phones, medical devices, appliances, GPS, music players, power sytems (with the one exception of steady state sinusoidals and power transmission), motors, control systems, and hundreds more.

Anyone in IT or software needs this book! I know it's costly, but is simply just PACKED with all the most up to date architecture info you'd need 9 other books to find. Ed doesn't just stop at the most up to date component designs and interfaces, he also generously covers networking, routing and many other topics at the top of today's technology list. Since he's been with Google, he doesn't just define embedded as a dedicated chip for your Arduino dinosaur, but also the dedicated chip that monitors and maintains a server.

I wouldn't recommend this to an advanced EE, but EVERYONE ELSE from hobbyists to students from advanced HS to undergrad, to software engineers used to general console design but wanting to move toward embedded, to anyone interested in the most modern microprocessor designs and techniques. When "big box" people think embedded, they immediately start wondering about memory limitations, sensor interfaces, weight, size, etc. -- and they are right! But embedded techniques then "give back" to the big box guys when they remember things like heat generation!

I understand budgets, especially for students, but this is far cheaper than four other textbooks I reviewed in the field that don't have, together, half of the info you'll get here on "what makes a computer tick." Tables and diagrams are also outstanding-- this is clearly a teacher that understands many of us learn with different styles.

Perfectly targeted

For many years I worked at an embedded HW company, in the capacity of SW engineer, writing code which ran on a proprietary HW computing platform.
When I started working at that company, I would have dearly loved to have a copy of this book. I'm not kidding - there were so many things I didn't know and there aren't that many really good practical references, with emphasis on "practical". This book provides good overviews of the various systems in an embedded computing platform, all from an architectural perspective, which is precisely the level the working SW engineer needs in order to be productive.

If you have worked in a professional capacity as a microprocessor designer, this book will be too basic for you. But if you are a SW engineer working at a very low level, on the bare metal, or you are working in an embedded HW capacity, this book is a fantastic resource. Need to better understand transmission line signal reflection? High level aspects of PCB design? A primer on logic analyzers? Address decoding?

I give this book 5 stars because it is the most accurately targeted and best one of its kind that I know about.

A good introduction to Financial Markets

Although I've been in the Financial Industry for many years, I've known that there are gaps in my knowledge, and this book helped to fill them.
I was looking for a step-by-step description of the Trading Process, and this book had what I was looking for (although I'll be waiting for the subsequent books in the set to provide more detail). I can now explain the difference between clearing and settlement.
I also liked the fact that it had clear definitions for terms such as 'Prime Broker' and 'Wholesalers' and had good diagrams that showed the relationship between the different components that make up the industry on both the buy and sell side.
I'd highly recommend this book as a good overview of the Financial Industry. My only minor complaint is that sometimes I felt that the diagrams tended to overwhelm the text.

This book is an essential item for any scientist hoping to work in the tropics. These papers provide a foundation (as the name states) for understanding both how the tropical forest biome functions as well as the process by which we came to gain some understanding of these processes. The value of this book is obvious to biologists, but I think it can also offer a lot of insight for anthropologists and archaeologists since culture and ecosystem are so closely tied. Finally, it offers us a chance to see the development of ideas about tropical biology and an understanding of where we are now in our grasp of what can be argued is the most important and imperiled of the world's ecosystems.
